las lanzas

Invited by artist in residence platform Witte Rook Breda and Stedelijk Museum Breda, the Spanish-Dutch artist duo Iratxe Jaio and Klaas van Gorkum are working on an artistic research project on the Dutch copies of the painting La rendición de Breda (The Surrender of Breda) or Las Lanzas by Velázquez (1635, collection Museo del Prado Madrid). The research will result in a new (video) artwork. Although Jaio and Van Gorkum are conducting this research independently, under the guidance of Witte Rook, I am externally involved in the development of the presentation of the project in Spain. This project is part of an ongoing exchange that Witte Rook is engaging in with Spain, which also included Vuelta//Arte (see below).

Collection management

For QKunst I work with art collections of companies and government bodies. This involves the collection inventory and registration, organizing the depots, creating exhibitions and presentation concepts at the offices, researching the collection, writing (exhibition) texts and giving tours. Clients are or have been: Rabobank, Wageningen University, Delft University, the Province of Zuid-Holland, KPN, Nationale Nederlanden, the municipality of Amersfoort, among others.

In 2024 I was a member of an independent committee regarding the membership for professional visual artists of contemporary art space Kunstgarage Franx in Zoetermeer, NL. In several meetings, the candidates' work was discussed with fellow art professionals.

art in public space

I am co-organiser and mediator of the art project BUILD!, in which six emerging artists created new outdoor pieces for the public space of Lage Weide business park in Utrecht. The works were on show in autumn 2024 at Lage Weide and will be on show at the sculpture biennial ARTZUID in Amsterdam from May to September 2025. Besides BUILD!, anno spring 2025 I am involved in the initial stages of several art in public space commissions in Utrecht and Amsterdam, connecting art, design, heritage and history, mobility, community, landscape and urban planning.

RESEARCH

In 2020/2021 I lived in Barcelona, where I researched the life and oeuvre of the Spanish Catalan twentieth century artist and designer Jordi Fornas (1927-2011) for a private client. My independent research focusses on Spanish art in Dutch (museum) collections, such as Spanish informalism, for example of Antoni Tàpies (1923-2012), in the context of the international political relations at the time. In general, research is part of many of my projects.

I co-organised Vuelta//Arte, an event related to La Vuelta Holanda, connecting the Spanish and Dutch art worlds. The event took place 17-18-19 June 2022, in Utrecht, Breda and Den Bosch. In this project, I worked together with artist-in-residence platform Witte Rook and Stedelijk Museum Breda.
